The Maelstrom™ Rainwater Filter sets a new standard for pre-tank rainwater filtration and can deliver clear, colorless, odorless and plentiful rainwater into your Rainwater Harvesting Tank. The Maelstrom™ Rainwater Filter is easy to install on new or existing Rainwater Harvesting Systems and is compatible with all of your standard pre-filtration equipment like Leaf Eaters and First Flush Diverters. The Maelstrom™ Rainwater Filter features an ultra fine 180 micron filter that removes particles 5 times smaller than Leaf Eaters and Tank Screens and even delivers rapid flow rates of up to 158.5 gallons per minute while retaining a 96% water catchment efficiency!

Designing your rainwater harvesting system using Leaf Eaters and a First Flush Diverter will help maximize the performance of a Maelstrom Rainwater Filter by filtering out some of the larger debris upstream. Pre-filtration is the key to creating a maintenance-friendly Rainwater Harvesting System that you'll grow to love for many years to come. Are you building a drip irrigation system? A Maelstrom™ Rainwater Filter will drastically reduce the chance of clogging of your drip emitters as you are putting very clean rainwater into your Rainwater Storage Tank. Are you building a large Rainwater Harvesting System for indoor consumption? Install a Maelstrom™ and increase the life of your sediment filters by lessening the demand on them! The Maelstrom™ is a very versatile product, able to be installed directly on top of the tank, in the ground, or even mounted on a wall or post.

How does the Maelstrom™ work?

  1. Rainwater from your gutters flows into the U-shaped Filter and your Inlet Pipe is secured with the stainless steel hose clamp.
  2. The first 2 mm (0.08 inch) filter diverts leaves and larger debris on a slick plastic surface that helps them slide and move along.
  3. The second, ultra-fine 180 micron filter stops even finer particles down to 180 microns!
  4. During major rain events, the overflow port helps flush-out leaves and debris from the filter.
  5. A final 0.955 mm (0.04 inch) screen placed at the bottom prevents mosquitoes from entering tanks to breed.
  6. The filtered rainwater is funneled through the base of the filter and into your rainwater tank.
